Church Fenton Short Mat Bowling

Church Fenton is a small village between Leeds and York, near Selby and Tadcaster.

Short Mat Bowling is played between September and March. We play in the Selby District  Leagues and unlike many other Short Mat Clubs in the Selby area (who play in Village/Church Halls) we have the benefit of having our own Clubhouse which can accommodate 2 mats.

The Club is a member of the Selby & District Short Mat Bowling Association which is affiliated to the North Yorkshire Short Mat Bowling Association (NYSMBA), the Northern England Short Mat Bowling Association (NESMBA) and the English Short Mat Bowling Association (ESMBA)

All Church Fenton Short Mat members  are entitled to enter the County Championships and can progress to the Northern Championships (if successful) which are held at Barnard Castle in March, with the possibility of qualifying for the National Championships.

We have Social/Practice bowling on a Monday evening from 6-30pm, and welcome prospective new members, or anyone wishing to try the game.

We work with Church Fenton School to provide taster sessions for year 5 & 6 pupils and run an After School Club for those who wish to attend. The Club members working with the children are all DBS accredited.

It is a friendly game played in good spirit though we all play to win. It is one of the few games where all the members of a family (10 years old to 90 + years old) can compete on an equal basis.
